Business Continuity

What if you had a fire or a flood in your pharmacy, or any other such incident which compromises your service levels?

Your regular patients would have no choice but to go to your competition and so be exposed to the charms of other service providers.

Pharmacy contractors will be aware of the need for a Pharmacy Business Continuity Plan and the requirement that it should be available for inspection as part of their NHS Governance obligations.

The PSNC template includes a pharmacy kabin in a list of suggested recovery strategies for contractors to consider in the context of ‘Loss of Main Pharmacy Building’ .

So consider including a link to this website within your Business Continuity Plans so that you can respond promptly in an emergency.

As an integral part of your disaster recovery solution you might also wish to consider precisely where a kabin might be off-loaded in the vicinity of your existing premises? Is there space around your current premises? Or a surgery car-park perhaps??

Relocation permission may technically be required so it maybe beneficial to discuss your recovery plan, including the temporary site you have identified, with your local NHS England Area Team ?

This pharmacy was destroyed by a fire overnight on a Sunday, but the business was trading again on Wednesday out of a Portable Pharmacy.

“After a devastating fire at my Pharmacy, the portable pharmacy kabin proved to be a lifeline, enabling me to continue service provision within days. Its not an exaggeration to say but without it I may well have lost my entire business.”
